Your kids mastered the Cyrillic Alphabet. Awesome! What’s the next step? Spelling Serbian words. Sounds scary? No worries. I prepared four fun hands-on activities to help your little spellers write their first words in Serbian.

Here’s a simple way to practice spelling Serbian words.

die 1

Learning to spell Serbian words takes time and a lot of repetitive practice. Boring? I have some good news. Repetitive practice can be fun. If you want your kids to have fun as they write the same words over and over again, roll-the-dice activities are a must-do.

Gather your supplies: die one printable, recording sheets, glue, scissors, and some colored pencils. Grab the scissors to cut out the die and glue to put it together. Each kiddo gets a recording sheet and colored pencils. Have your children take turns rolling the dice. Next, they name the image they rolled, grab a colored pencil and trace the correct word. The winner is the child that completes one column first.

die 2

We all want our kids to have fun while learning. Roll-the-dice activities are a hit with children of all ages. It’s the magic of rolling the dice. Kids love it. The best part is that they practice spelling words without realizing it. Fantastic.

Let’s set it up. You can start by printing the die 2 and recording sheets for each player. A pair of scissors and some glue. Viola! You have a die. Lay down colored pencils and recording sheets in front of your kids. Let your kids roll the dice. Now, they name the image they rolled, grab a colored pencil and unscramble the corresponding word on the recording sheet. The kiddo that unscrambles all words in one column first is the winner.

You may want to make a few copies of the recording sheet. Why? I can promise you your kids will ask to play again. Once they try the activity that involves rolling the dice, they can’t get enough of it.

Break Serbian words into syllables.

die 3, 4

Boring activities are the past. Grab a die and let the fun begin. Another thing I love about roll-the-dice activities is that kids work with six words at a time. If you give your kids a long spelling word list, they will be overwhelmed. It’s super important to keep the activities short and sweet if you want to grab your child’s attention.

Print the dice 3, dice 4, and recording sheets to set up this activity. Grab glue and scissors and assemble the dice. The trickiest part is to put the dice together. You can always assemble the dice the day before.

Have your kids roll the dice 1, then dice 2. Next, they sound out the syllables. If syllables make the word representing that image on dice 1, let your kids grab a colored pencil and color the correct syllables. The kiddo who colors in one column first is our lucky winner.

Fun and Simple Board game for reluctant spellers

Let your kids take a break from filling out worksheets. You may want to offer them something new and exciting; they will be eager to learn. A board game is always a good choice. Games allow kids to have fun, interact and learn.

It’s time to set it up. Print the board game and grab die 3. Place the playing pieces at the start, and you are all set. Let your kiddos roll the dice, look at the image and sound out the syllable. Grab the colored pencil and trace the correct syllable to make the word that matches the image on the dice. The child who gets to the board game’s end first is the winner.
